The complete Tangier — in one unforgettable day.

Tangier is not one thing. It is a city that has been a Phoenician port, a Roman colony, an Arab medina, a Portuguese fortress, a Spanish protectorate, a French colonial playground, and an International Zone where Cold War spies traded secrets in cafés. All of that is still there — layered on top of each other — if you have someone who knows where to look.

Hassan has been guiding in Tangier for over 30 years. This is his city. He walks you through it the way a native walks — not the route on the tourist map, but the actual route: the alleys that cut off 20 minutes, the café where the locals sit, the corner of the Kasbah that has the better view and fewer people.

You'll also leave the city for an hour to reach the coast — Cap Spartel, the literal northwestern tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean collide in front of you. It's one of the most quietly extraordinary moments available in Morocco, and it's 25 minutes from Tangier city centre.

Stop 01

Cap Spartel

The northwest corner of the African continent. The lighthouse stands where the Mediterranean ends and the Atlantic begins. On a clear morning you can see the Spanish coast from here — Gibraltar, Tarifa, the whole strait.

Stop 02

Hercules Caves

A sea grotto carved by millennia of Atlantic waves. The cave mouth, viewed from inside, is shaped exactly like the map of Africa. Phoenician artifacts, Roman ruins, and the legend of the demigod himself — all in one stop.

Stop 03

The Kasbah

The ancient fortress at the hilltop of Tangier. Built in the 15th century, it became the sultans' palace — Dar el-Makhzen. Now a museum, but still magnificent. Panoramic terrace with views over the strait to Spain.

Stop 04

Grand & Petit Socco

The two squares that are the lungs of Tangier. Grand Socco is the grand market square where the modern city meets the medina. Petit Socco is the older, more intimate inner square — cafés where Bowles wrote, Burroughs drank, and nothing has changed.

Stop 05

The Medina

Hassan takes you through the medina the way visitors never go alone — through the spice souk, past the tilemakers, into the residential alleys where actual Tangerois life happens. No pressure to buy. Just the city as it is.

Stop 06

Achakar Beach

Between the Caves and the city — a wild Atlantic beach. If you want a camel ride, this is where it happens. Completely optional, $15 per person extra. Many people just want to stand here and watch the waves.

09:00

Pickup from your hotel, riad, or cruise port

Hassan meets you at your hotel, riad, or cruise port — on time, always. Private vehicle for the full day. No strangers, no group, no stops you didn't ask for.

09:25

Cap Spartel Lighthouse

You're standing at the northwestern tip of Africa. The lighthouse has been here since 1864, maintained by an international commission because every nation with ships in the strait needed it. On a clear morning — most mornings — Spain is visible fourteen kilometres across the water. Tarifa. Gibraltar. The whole strait.

09:50

Achakar Beach

A wild Atlantic beach between the lighthouse and the Caves — no vendors, no infrastructure, no tourists. The waves come straight from Portugal. The optional camel ride happens here ($15 per person, paid directly to the handlers). Most people skip it and just stand at the edge of the ocean.

10:25

Hercules Caves

The cave opens directly onto the Atlantic — its mouth shaped, viewed from inside, exactly like the map of Africa. Phoenicians came to quarry millstones here. Romans came after. Then Hercules, in the myth, resting after his twelfth labor. $2 entrance. Walk through slowly.

11:30

Kasbah of Tangier & Dar el-Makhzen

The old fortress at the top of the medina. Dar el-Makhzen — the Sultan’s palace — sits at its center, now a museum of Moroccan arts and antiquities. Hassan knows this place the way a resident knows it: the terrace where the whole strait opens below you, the courtyard most visitors walk past, the doorway with the light. Optional museum entry ~$2.

13:00

Grand Socco & Petit Socco

Two squares, two versions of Tangier. Grand Socco is where the countryside meets the city — Rif farmers still come down on Thursdays. Petit Socco is quieter and older: Paul Bowles wrote here, William Burroughs lived here for years, and the cafés haven’t changed. Sit down. Order tea. Hassan tells this part well.

13:30

Guided Tangier's Medina Walking Tour

The route here is Hassan's, not a map's. Through the spice souk, the dyers' alley, the tilemakers' quarter — and into the residential streets where the medina is actually lived in. No commission stops, no pressure. Just the city on a normal afternoon.

15:00

Return transfer and dropoff

Back to your hotel, riad, or cruise port. Eight hours: the Atlantic coast, the Caves, the Kasbah, the medina. If you're staying in Tangier tonight, ask Hassan where to eat dinner — he knows where the good lamb is.

All timings are flexible and can be adjusted to suit your pace. Whether you wish to spend more time at Cap Spartel or explore the Hercules Caves in greater depth, your itinerary can be tailored to your preferences.

Flexible Meals

Your comfort comes first. All meals — breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks — are simply recommendations and can be easily adjusted to suit your tastes, dietary needs, or any special requests. Our goal is to make every meal a pleasant, personalized part of your journey.

Do I need to pay per person or per group?

Per group. $500 covers your whole party — 1, 2, 3 or 4 people. The price doesn't change based on group size.

We're arriving on a cruise ship. Can you pick us up at the port?

Yes. Message Aymane with your ship's docking time and departure time and he'll confirm availability and arrange port pickup. This is one of our most common bookings.

Is the camel ride included?

No — it's optional and $15 per person extra, paid directly to the handlers. Many people skip it and just enjoy the beach. Others say it's their favourite 10 minutes of the trip.

Where do we eat lunch?

Lunch is not included in the price. Hassan will take you to a restaurant he personally vouches for — not a tourist trap. You pay the restaurant directly. Budget ~$15 per person.

Is this suitable for children and older adults?

Yes. The medina walking portion involves uneven cobblestones but is manageable. Hassan adjusts the pace for every group. If anyone has mobility concerns, mention it when you book and the route will be adjusted.

What's the difference between this and the half-day tour?

The half-day focuses entirely on the old city — Medina, Kasbah, Petit Socco. The full day adds Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules on the Atlantic coast. If you have the time, the full day is the more complete experience.
