Morocco's four imperial cities — Fez, Meknes, Rabat, Casablanca — are the backbone of the country's history. Four capitals, four different dynasties, four completely different personalities. Five days is the right amount of time to feel each one without rushing through any of them.

Fez is the centrepiece. The medina of Fez el-Bali is the largest living medieval city in the world — 9,000 lanes, no cars, unchanged in its essential character for a thousand years. Hassan knows it the way very few guides do: not as a tourist circuit but as a living place, with the butchers, the dyers, the students of the Qarawiyyin mosque, the craftsmen working in brass and leather.

The other cities each get a day: Meknes for the monumental gates and the Roman ruins of Volubilis nearby, Rabat for the royal capital and Atlantic coast, Casablanca for the Hassan II Mosque and the modern Morocco that the other cities don't show.

Day 01

Arrival in Fez — First Light in the Medina

Hassan meets you at Fez-Saïss Airport or Fez train station. Check into your riad inside or adjacent to the medina — position matters enormously in Fez. Late afternoon walk through the Andalusian quarter and the Bou Inania Madrasa. The medina at dusk, before the evening call to prayer. Dinner at a riad restaurant.

Overnight: 2 nights in a curated riad inside Fez el-Bali medina.

Day 02

Full Day in Fez el-Bali

A full day inside the medina. The Chouara tanneries — the most famous leather dye pits in the world, seen properly from above with context from Hassan, not from a carpet shop roof. The Qarawiyyin mosque (founded 859 AD, the world's oldest continuously operating university). The brass souk, the spice market, the Jewish quarter of the Mellah. Mint tea on a rooftop at the end of the afternoon.

Overnight: Night 2 in Fez.

Day 03

Volubilis + Meknes

Morning at Volubilis — the best-preserved Roman ruins in Morocco, a UNESCO site in the foothills of the Middle Atlas. Hassan explains the Roman, then Berber, then Arab history of this extraordinary site. Then on to Meknes — the imperial city of Sultan Moulay Ismail, whose walls, gates, and granaries still stand. The Bab Mansour gate is one of the great pieces of Islamic architecture in Africa.

Overnight: Night in Meknes or drive to Rabat (Aymane advises based on your pace).

Day 04

Rabat — The Royal Capital

Morocco's current capital is undervisited and quietly extraordinary. The Kasbah of the Udayas, perched above the Atlantic and the Bou Regreg river. The Tour Hassan and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. The medina and the Mellah. The long Salé corniche along the river. Rabat has the feel of a city that knows it doesn't need to perform for tourists.

Overnight: Night in Rabat boutique hotel.

Day 05

Casablanca + Departure

The Hassan II Mosque — the third largest mosque in the world, built over the Atlantic, with a retractable roof and a minaret visible from 60km at sea. The Art Deco boulevards of the Maarif district. The Corniche. Casablanca is the economic capital of Morocco, and Hassan shows the modern country that the medinas don't. Departure from Mohammed V International Airport.

Can we customize the itinerary?

Yes — this is the default framework. Every detail is adapted before you arrive based on your interests, pace preferences, and accommodation style. Some travelers want more time in specific cities; others want to add or swap destinations. Aymane designs around your trip, not a template.

How does payment work?

A 30% deposit by Wise or bank transfer to confirm the booking and allow Aymane to reserve accommodation. The balance in cash to Hassan on the first day. Aymane sends a full itemized quote before any deposit is requested.

What is the best time of year for this journey?

March–May and September–November are ideal — mild temperatures everywhere, including the Sahara. Summer (June–August) is very hot in the south. December–February can be cold in the Atlas and north but beautifully uncrowded. Aymane advises on seasonal timing when you inquire.

Is this suitable for families with children?

Yes — many of our best journeys have been with families. Hassan is experienced with children and knows how to adapt the pace and content to keep them engaged. Aymane adjusts the itinerary for family travel when designing your journey.
